Company 44 Assists on High Rise Fire

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Monday, May 13th, at 18:00 hours to assist Company 14 (Swarthmore) on the High Rise Box Alarm, 801 Yale Avenue, Strath Haven Condominiums.

The first call to 911 was from a residence on the 12th Floor reporting smoke in the hallway.  Upon arrival of initial units from Company 14 and Swarthmore Police nothing was showing from the exterior.  Firefighters had smoke showing on the 10th, 11th and 12th Floors.  Chief 14-9A established Strath Haven Condo Command.

Firefighters began an evacuation of all residences of the upper floors of the 12 Story High Rise and continued searching for the source of the smoke.   Firefighters determined the source of the smoke was from a kitchen in a 10th floor apartment.   Unattended cooking in that apartment is what caused the smoke condition.

Firefighters from Company 14, Company 44, Company 13, Company 51, Company 65 and Company 23 assisted with the evacuation and ventilation operations.

Units remained on the scene until 19:24 hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  Engine 14-1, Engine 14-2, Ladder 14, Engine 13-2, Tower 44, Rescue 44, Engine 44-2, Rescue 51, Ladder 65, Engine 65-1, Engine 65-2, Snorkel 23, Medic 102, Ambulance 14-7 and Swarthmore Police.
