Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Sunday, April 21, at 12:34 hours for a Propane Grill Fire at 131 Wyndmoor Road.  Upon arrival of Chief 44-9B, the call was upgraded to a Structure Fire with Fire in the Garage.   The initial 911 caller thought it was a propane grill that was on fire.

Engine 44-1 arrived on the scene an used a booster line to finish extinguishment of a fire that started in the garage area of the home.   A neighbor had knocked down most of the fire with a fire extinguisher before the fire company arrived.

Firefighters from Engine 44-1 and Tower 44 checked for any fire extension into the home using the thermal imaging camera and ventilated the house to remove some minor smoke.

The home owner had received burns to his face and hands and suffered smoke inhalation when he discovered the fire and tried to extinguish the fire.  Ambulance 44-7 and Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital) transported the individual to Crozer Chester Burn Center.  The burns he received are not life-threatening.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and appears to accidental.

Units remained on the scene until 13:19 hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  Engine 44-1, Tower 44, Engine 44-2, Ambulance 44-7, Medic 106, Springfield Police and Fire Police, and Springfield Township Fire Marshal.
