American Unity Day Parade

Springfield Fire Company, along with fellow emergency services personnel and residents of Delaware County, participated in the American Unity Day Parade.  The event was held as a show of patriotism and solidarity among all citizens following the events of September 11th, 2001.

The day started with two parades, one beginning at the Springfield Mall and the other at Granite Run Mall.  The two parades marched along Route 1 and proceeded through Media Boro.  The two parades joined as one along Route 252 in Upper Providence Township and headed to Rose Tree Park.

The event was organized through U.S. Representative Curt Weldon (R-7) and Media Borough Mayor Bob McMahon.  Once at Rose Tree Park, a patriotic rally was held for all victims of that tragic day and also to show support of our military personnel involved with Operation Enduring Freedom.

Springfield Fire Company provided Tower 44 as part of an arch along with Tower 74 (Primos Secane Westbrook Park Fire Company) to mark the start of the parade from Springfield Mall.  Engine 44-1 was part of that parade.   TAC-44 and Rescue 44 were on stand-by at Rose Tree Fire Company for any emergencies that might occur during the day's events.

Over 40,000 people participated in the parade and patriotic rally.  This event showed the true meaning of "Proud to be an American".  It could be seen in the eyes and faces of everyone involved, but most of all felt in the hearts of everyone.
