Line of Duty Death - Swarthmore Fire & Protective Association

April 25, 1958 - August 18, 2001

Swarthmore Fire & Protective Association (Company 14) announced the Line of Duty Death of Firefighter Rick Shoaf on Saturday, August 18th.  Firefighter Schoaf was arriving at Station 14 around 07:30 hours for a Medical Emergency call when he collapsed at the station.  Members of Company 14 transported him in Ambulance 14-7 to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead from an apparent heart attack.

Firefighter Rick Shoaf had been an active member of the Swarthmore Fire & Protective Association and South Media Fire Company (Station 51) for more than 20 years.  He was one of the most active personnel on Swarthmore Fire & Protective Association's Ambulance since it was placed into service in the Spring of 1999.

Internment:    Media Cemetery, Orange Street & Kirk Lane, Media, PA  19063

Fire Companies from around Delaware County have been providing Stand-by coverage at Station 14 since Saturday morning.
