Driver Trapped in Overturned
Car on Beatty Road Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Tuesday, January 16th at 08:38 hours for a Motor Vehicle Accident on Beatty Road by the Philadelphia Suburban Water Crum Creek Pumping Station. Upon arrival of Chief 44-9, the call was upgraded to a Motor Vehicle Accident with Entrapment. One vehicle had overturned while heading northbound on Beatty Road after crossing the Crum Creek bridge. The driver of the vehicle was trapped inside as the vehicle had come to rest against a concrete wall on the side of Beatty Road at the entrance to the Pumping Station. The crew from TAC-44 stabilized the vehicle and gained entry through the passenger side of the vehicle to allow the medical personnel from Medic 104-7 (Riddle Hospital) the room to evaluate the driver. With only TAC-44 on the call, Chief 44-9 had Rescue 51 (South Media Fire Company) dispatched to assist at the scene. Once the driver was evaluated and no life threatening injuries were found, firefighters worked to remove the driver-side door and driver-side rear door to gain access to remove the individual. The car was positioned and stabilized by the Police Department's Tow Truck Company to provide adequate room to remove the driver and stabilize the vehicle during the entire operation. The driver sustained only minor injuries due to the fact that she was wearing her seatbelt. She was transported to Springfield Hospital by Ambulance 44-7.
