Fire Damages Home on Coppock
Lane Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Tuesday, August 21 at 18:28 hours for a Dwelling Fire at 833 Coppock Lane. The County 911 Center received numerous phone calls from residents on Coppock Lane reporting a house on fire. Upon arrival of Chief 44-9 and Chief 44-9A, heavy smoke was showing from the dwelling and fire was reported on all levels of the split level home. Chief 44-9 established Springfield Command. Engine 44-1 arrived on the scene and went into service with 2 - 1 3/4" hoselines. The initial line entered through the garage area and started attacking the fire on the lower level, while the second line was stretched through the front door of the house and worked on the upper level of the house. Firefighters from Tower 44 laddered the structure and started ventilating the roof. They also assisted the crews from Engine 44-1 on the interior and ventilated the windows of the structure. Springfield Command called for the Second Alarm which dispatched Broomall Fire Company (Company 53) and Air Unit 58 (Bon Air Fire Company). Second Alarm companies assisted with manpower on the fire scene. Engine 44-2 laid a 5" water supply line from Engine 44-1 to the hydrant at Eagle Road and Markham Place. Firefighters placed a third 1 3/4" hoseline in service from Engine 44-1 and used it on the roof to assist with the fire in the attic space. Firefighters did an excellent job in controlling the fire which had spread up a pipe chase inside the home from the basement crawl space. The fire caused severe damage to the home. Springfield Township's Fire Marshal Office investigated the fire and it was determined that the cause of the fire was accidental. The homeowner was remodeling the kitchen area of the home and was working in the crawl space area when a piece of equipment he was using malfunctioned. One firefighter from Springfield Fire Company was transported to Springfield Hospital with lacerations on his left forearm and hand, caused by broken glass from a window being ventilated. The firefighter was treated and released that night from the hospital. Units remained on the scene until 20:20 hours. Units operating on the scene were: Engine 44-1, Tower 44, Engine 44-2, Tele-Squirt 53, Engine 53-2, Snorkel 53, Air Unit 58, Ambulance 44-7 and 44-7A, Medic 106, Canteen 60, Springfield Police and Fire Police and Springfield Township Fire Marshal Office. |
