Fire Damages House on Kerr Lane

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Wednesday, August 1st, at 22:28 hours to 441 Kerr Lane for a Dwelling Fire.  Upon arrival of Chief Officer's from Company 44, smoke was showing from a second floor rear bedroom window.  All occupants had evacuated the structure prior to the Fire Company's arrival.

Springfield Command had Engine 44-1 lay a 5" Supply line from the hydrant at Kerr Lane and Spring Valley Road into the scene.  Firefighters from Engine 44-1 made an agressive interior attack with an 1 3/4" hoseline.  Firefighters from Tower 44 laddered the rear of the building to ventilate the fire room and also backed up the crew of Engine 44-1.  Crews from Tower 44 also worked on salvage operations on the first floor of the residence.  Firefighters used the thermal imaging cameras from Engine 44-1 and Tower 44 to check for any fire extension.

Personnel from Engine 44-2 and Rescue 44 provided additional support to the initial crews.  The fire was contained to original fire room, but the home sustained heavy smoke and heat damage throughout the second floor.

Because of the quick action of the homeowners to call 911 immediately, upon discovering the fire, the situation was quickly controlled by firefighters and the damage to the residence was lessened.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 00:15 hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  Engine 44-1, Tower 44, Engine 44-2, Rescue 44, Ambulance 44-7, Medic 106, Springfield Police and Fire Police, and Springfield Township Fire Marshal.
