Fire Damages Home on Kirk Drive Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Tuesday, July 18th at 16:36 hours for a Structure Fire at 556 Kirk Drive, Springfield Township. Broomall Fire Company was also dispatched as part of the Mutual Aid response during daytime hours for Structure Fires. Initial reports from an off-duty police officer on scene reported a working structure fire. Upon arrival of Fire Chief Robert Woolson (44-9), smoke was showing from the attic area of the residence. Engine 44-1 arrived on the scene and laid a 5" Supply Line from the hydrant at Kirk Drive and Northcroft Road. Firefighters from 44-1 went into service with a 1 3/4" handline and controlled the fire in the attic quickly. They also used the Thermal Imaging Camera to check for any possible fire spread, which helped keep damages to a minimum. Crews from Engine 44-2, Tower 44, Rescue 44 and Snorkel 53 (Broomall) assisted with ventilation and overhaul. Damage was contained to the attic area with minimal water damage to one room on the second floor of the residence. The residents were not home at the time of the fire. The fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal and appears to be accidental. Crews remained on the scene until 18:26 hours. Units operating at the scene were: Engine 44-1, Engine 44-2, Tower 44, Rescue 44, Snorkel 53, Ambulance 44-7, Medic 106, Springfield Township Fire Marshal, Springfield Police and Fire Police. |
