NEW MSA SCBA IN SERVICE

On Tuesday, July 13th, Springfield Fire Company placed into service 42 MSA MMR Extreme Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).   The new SCBA's feature all the latest in Breathing Apparatus technology including Integrated Personal Alert Safety System (PASS) Devices that are activated everytime the SCBA is used, Quick-Fill Connections and Buddy Breathing Capabilities, and Personal Air Masks for each member.

The SCBA's also feature 30 Minute Stealth Carbon-Fiber Composite Air Bottles.  These Carbon-Fiber Technology bottles weigh only 7 1/2 pounds when full, thus reducing the weight on the firefighter and helping to reduce stress and fatigue.

The members have been training with the new SCBA's before the change-over occurred.  Even with the change-over complete, training continues as the members are constantly working to improve their skills and knowledge of their equipment.

The replacement project was started over a year ago and with the help and insight of many members has become reality.  The members of Springfield Fire Company are well protected with this new equipment and so are the citizens in which they protect.
