Gas Leak Causes Evacuation of School

On May 19th, at 13:26 hours, the Springfield Fire Company was dispatched to a Natural Gas Leak in the area of Sproul Road and Thomson Avenue.   The Leak has caused by a construction company working at the site of the new Springfield Country Clubhouse.  With a strong odor of natural gas being detected inside the St. Kevin's Elementary School, the Springfield Fire Company evacuated all the students and facualty to the Parking Garage of the Springfield Health Plex.  PECO Energy crews were dispatched and controlled the leak within a half hour.  Once the leak was secured, all buildings were checked by both Springfield Fire Company crews and PECO Energy crews.  The students and facualty were allow back in the school around 14:30 hours.  All units from Springfield Fire Company cleared the scene by 14:50 hours.
