Driver Trapped Under Vehicle
On Sunday morning, 9/5/99, at 02:19 hours the Springfield Fire Company was dispatched to a Motor Vehicle Accident in the 900 Block of Beatty Road. Initial reports stated that a vehicle had overturned and the driver was trapped under the vehicle. Springfield Police Department had arrived on the scene first and advised responding units of the situation.
Upon arrival of Chief Woolson and TAC-44, the vehicle was stabilized while EMS personnel from Springfield Hospital (Medic 106) and Springfield Ambulance Corps. (44-7) started treating the driver. Once the vehicle was stabilized, the crew from TAC-44 used the Maverick Hurst Tool (Jaws-of-Life) to lift the car off the subject and the driver was removed from under the vehicle.
The driver was Air-Lifted in Critical Condition to the University of Pennsylvania by the Penn-Star Medical Helicopter.
Units on the scene were: TAC-44, Rescue 44, Medic 106, 44-7, Springfield Police and Springfield Fire Police. Swarthmore Fire Company stood by at the Landing Zone at Route 420 and Route 320 for Penn-Star.
Units were available from the scene at 03:19 hours.
