Chimney Fire Smokes Up Neighborhood

Springfield Firefighters were dispatched on Tuesday, November 30th, at 20:28 hours to 310 Butler Road for a Chimney Fire.  First arriving units had heavy smoke upon arrival.  Firefighters from Engine 44-4 started checking for any extension of fire from the chimney into the structure as the crew from Tower 44 set up ventilation fans to clear the smoke from the residence.

Firefighters from Tower 44 working from the roof determined that the chimney was totally blocked and that the lining inside the chimney was starting to fail.  Crews then used a booster line to extinguish the fire and cool down the chimney.  Firefighters then worked to clear the blockage and finish extinguishment of the fire.

The chimney was severely damaged by the fire and the residence had some minor smoke damage.

Units operating at the scene were: Engine 44-4, Engine 44-2, Tower 44, Rescue 44, Springfield Ambulance 44-7, Springfield Fire Marshal (Car-1), Springfield Police and Springfield Fire Police.

Firefighters remained on the scene until   21:58 hours.
