"The Mile of Maroon"
This was the nickname given to the Springfield Fire Company's apparatus during a neighboring fire company's parade. We liked the nickname so here it is, the
"Mile of Maroon."

From the long devoted hours of members of the Springfield Fire Company, the continued support of Springfield Township and the insight of the Springfield Township Fireman's Relief Association, has risen the Firefighting and Rescue Force of Company 44. All of the apparatus that is utilized by the members, has been planned and designed by the members through apparatus committees that spend months designing the vehicles that meet the needs of Springfield Township. With the financing of the apparatus through Springfield Township and the Springfield Township Fireman's Relief Association, the members can devote all of their time in designing and maintaining the best firefighting equipment for the citizen's of Springfield Township.
The Springfield Fire Company also prides itself on the unique color of all the apparatus. The color Maroon has been used on all Springfield Fire Company apparatus with the exception of the 1976 Pierce Tactical Unit. Labeled as a test for safer apparatus, it was quickly decided that the color Maroon would be used on all future apparatus. Legend has it that the first piece of modern fire equipment in the United States was colored maroon. The Springfield Fire Company continues this tradition while making many strides in the continued progression of the Fire Service.
