The Year Ends with a Crash
|
Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Wendesday, December 31st, with four minutes left in 2008 to the 900 block of West Sproul Road for a Motor Vehicle Accident with Ejection. Upon arrival of Springfield Police and Chief 44-9B, there was a one vehicle accident with the driver being thrown from the vehicle during the crash. The vehicle struck numerous objects, including an office building sign, two light poles, and some street signs before rolling over and coming to rest in the front lawn of the office building at 910 West Sproul Road. Medic 106 and Engine 44-4 arrived on location and started caring for the injured driver.
Rescue 44 was diverted to 400 South State Road to set-up a landing zone for a medical helicopter. Medic 106 requested that the helicopter be cancelled and the driver was going to be taken to Crozer Chester's Trauma Unit. Rescue 44 returned to the scene and assisted. Firefighters had to remove a small tree stump that was located directly next to the injured driver to allow for proper packaging of the subject. Ambulance 44-7 packaged the driver with assistance from firefighters and Medic 106.
The driver was transported to Crozer Chester in critical condition. Firefighters remained on the scene until 00:30 hours. This call was the last call for 2008 and Springfield Firefighters rang in the New Year while responding on the call.
Units operating on the scene were Engine 44-4, Rescue 44, Ambulance 44-7, Medic 106 and Springfield Police.
