Springfield Fire Company was dispatched, along with Company 53 (Broomall) on Sunday, December 20th, at 20:02 hours to I-476 Northbound at Mile Marker 6.5 for a Motor Vehicle Accident with Rollover. Upon arrival of initial units, there was one vehicle on the highway that had rolled over. Rescue 53 arrived on location in the Sounthbound lane, and firefighters scrammbled thru the snow covered median to place a hydraulic rescue tool into service.
Squad 44 arrived on location and started stabilization of the vehicle. Once stabilized, firefighters stretched a hose line for protection and placed the Holmatro rescue tools into service. Firefighters from Squad 44 assisted with clearing the front windshield and had completed all operations on the passenger's side of the vehicle for roof removal. Firefighters from Company 53 performed the rescue operations on the driver's side of the vehicle. Firefighters had the roof completely removed once all operations were completed on the driver's side.
The driver of the vehicle was evaluated by EMS personnel from Marple Township Ambulance Corps (Company 53-7) and transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center's Trauma Unit.
Firefighters from Company 44 remained on the scene until 20:47 hours.
Units operating on the scene were: Rescue 53, Squad 44, Engine 53-2, Ambulance 53-7, Medic 53. Rescue 44 staged at Interchange 5 during the incident.
