Assist on Dwelling Fire in Morton

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched along with Co. 11 (Morton), 13 (Rutledge), 14 (Swarthmore) and RIT 08 (Prospect Park) on Wednesday, December 3rd, at 07:25 hours to the 200 Block of West Sylvan Avenue, Morton Borough, for a Dwelling Fire.  County 911 had received numerous 911 calls from the area reporting fire showing from the second floor of the dwelling at 201 West Sylvan Avenue.  Upon arrival of Morton Police, fire was showing from the second floor bedroom area of the home.

Tower 14 arrived on scene and placed an 1 3/4" hose line into service.  Tower 44 arrived and assisted the crew of Tower 14 inside the dwelling.  Firefighters from Engine 44-1 laddered the dwelling and provided ventilation of the roof area.  Firefighters from Rescue 44, Company 11, Company 13 and Company 14 worked together to provide additional manpower and support on the scene.  Engine 08 (RIT) stood by as the Rapid Intervention Team.

Firefighters brought the fire under control within 20 minutes and performed salvage and overhaul operations.

Firefighters from Springfield remained on the scene until 08:20 hours.

Companies operating on the scene were:  Company 11, Company 13, Company 14, Company 44, RIT 08, Medic 102, Ambulance 14-7, Ambulance 44-7, Morton Police, Swarthmore Police and Sixth District Fire Police.

Ladder 43 (Holmes) provided stand by coverage at Station 44.
