Two Alarm Dwelling Fire on West Springfield Road

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched early Thursday morning at 01:58 hours to the area of West Springfield Road and Longview Drive for a Smoke Investigation.  Police Car 44-24 (Clifton Heights PD) was driving thru the area en route to the County Prison and reported smoke in the area.  County 911 had received additional calls within minutes reporting a House Fire in the 600 Block of West Spriingfield Road.

Upon arrival of Springfield Police and Chief 44-9B, fire was showing from the first floor front of a two story dwelling at 600 West Springfield Road.  Engine 44-1 laid a 5" supply line into the scene from a hydrant in the 500 Block of West Springfield Road and went into service with an 1 3/4" hose line.  Tower 44's crew laddered the building,  performed ventilation and search operations .  Crews from Engine 44-2 and Rescue 44 assisted on the scene.  Additional 1 3/4" hose lines were placed into service off Engine 44-1.  RIT 23 (Media) stood by as the Rapid Intervention Team.

Chief 44-9 established Command and requested the second alarm assignment.  Company 03 (Clifton Heights, Company 73 (Rose Tree) and Company 58 (Bon Air) assisted on the second alarm.

The fire extended to the second floor of the dwelling, but firefighters were able to quickly gain control of the fire.  Extensive salvage and overhaul operations were performed by all crews on the scene.  The lone resident of the home was able to escape the home prior to the arrival of the fire company.

Firefighters from Springfield Fire Company remained on the scene until 04:45 hours.

Companies operating on the scene were Company 44, Ambulance 44-7, Medic 106, Company 23 (RIT), Company 03, Company 73, Company 58 (Rescue 58), Ambulance and Medic 53, Springfield Police and Fire Police and Springfield Township Car 1.

Company 43 (Holmes) and Company 11 (Morton) provided stand by coverage at Station 44 during the incident.
