Another Masterpiece Completed

Springfield Fire Company, once again, has another masterpiece completed by legionary artist Charlie Mullen.  Charlie has completed his work on the new Squad 44, a 2009 Sutphen Rescue Pumper.  With the completion of this apparatus, Charlie Mullen has worked on most of the Springfield Fire Company's apparatus since 1951 with his first project being a 1951 GMC Panel Truck.  The only exceptions are the 1961 and 1964 Pirsch Engines which were done at the Peter Pirsch factory and the 2005 Ford Utility.

Charlie Mullen has been a friend of Springfield Fire Company over this time and is always a wealth of knowledge when it comes to fire apparatus history and fire service history in the eastern Delaware County area.

Charlie Mullen has ties to Cardington Stonehurst Fire Company, where he performed his very first apparatus project, Morton Fire Company, Primos Secane-Westbrook Park Fire Company and of course Springfield Fire Company.

The work of lettering fire apparatus has been around since the beginning of the fire service.  Charlie Mullen continues a lot of the traditions in much of his work along with some added personal touches to all his work.  Charlie Mullen credits most of his experience in learning the art to a man by the name of Norma Adler from the Upper Darby area.

Charlie Mullen has worked with and admires the work of a few other artist from the Northeast area who continue to keep the tradition alive and well.  Springfield Fire Company is proud to display the many works of art of this truly gifted and talented artist and true friend.
