Dwelling Fire on South Hillcrest Road

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Sunday, October 18th, at 15:23 hours, to the Unit block of South Hillcrest Road for a Dwelling Fire.  Initial calls to the Delaware County 911 Center reported smoke showing from the dwelling and the location of the occupants was unknown.  Upon arrival of Chief 44-9 and 44-9B, smoke was showing from a three story single family home.

Engine 44-1 laid a 5" water supply line from the hydrant at Orchard Road and South Hillcrest Road to the front of the fire dwelling.  Firefighters stretched an 1 3/4" hose line and started searching for the seat of the fire and conducted a primary search of the home for any occupants.  Firefighters located the fire inside a bedroom on the second floor and quickly contained the fire.  The search of the home revealed that the occupants were not home at the time of the fire.

Firefighters from Tower 44 and Engine 44-4 assisted with ventilation and salvage operations.  Rescue 20 (Garrettford-Drexel Hill) stood by as the Rapid Intervention Team on the fireground.

The fire is under investigation by the Springfield Township Fire Marshal's Office.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 16:23 hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  Engine 44-1, Tower 44, Engine 44-4, Rescue 44, Rescue 20 (RIT), Ambulance 44-7, Medic 106, Medic 75-7, Springfield Township Fire Marshal Car 1, Springfield Police and Fire Police.
