Operation Walk America

Springfield Fire Company was contacted on Friday, October 14th, by fellow firefighters from Concordville Fire Company to help assist a US Marine Corps Veteran and his mission.

Mac McQuown is on a mission to walk to every State Capital in the lower 48 states to raise awareness to his foundation which he is in the process of forming, Veterans Miracle Network.  His website, www.operationwalkamerica.com describes the mission he has set out to accomplish.  He set out on his mission on September 11, 2011.

Springfield Fire Company and Springfield Police Department helped Mac with his mission, by escorting him on Baltimore Pike from I-476 to the firehouse on Saxer Avenue on Saturday, October 15th.  Springfield Fire Company showed this US Marine veteran hospitality that many in the fire service are accustomed to when being in unfamiliar towns.  Logging was provided at the firehouse for Mac on Saturday, October 15th and Sunday October 16th and Mac was treated to a nice dinner by a member of Springfield Fire Company.  Springfield Fire Company Members also got Mac in touch with representatives of IAFF Local 22, Philadelphia Firefighter's Union, to assist him on his journey thru Philadelphia.

On Monday, October 17th, Utility 44 escorted Mac from Springfield's firehouse, thru Eastern Delaware County via Balitmore Pike and into Philadelphia.  Utility 44 provided a safety escort to Chestnut Street and the Schuylkill River in Center City, Philadelphia.

Springfield Fire Company wishes Mac McQuown the very best in his mission.  Many people have considered the mission to be impossible, but so were many missions that were undertaken by US Marine Corps members throughout our great history.  March On, Semper Fi!
