Fire Alarm Alerts of CO Problem

On Saturday, October 9th, Springfield Fire Company was dispatched to 965 Baltimore Pike for a Fire Alarm.  Chief 44-9B (Huczko) arrived on location to find construction workers in the lower level of the shopping center cutting through a concrete floor.

Dust from cutting the floor activated the fire alarm.  Another problem was quickly recognized when it was found out that the workers were using a gas powered saw indoors, which caused a Carbon Monoxide problem within the Building.

Chief 44-9B established Springfield Command and had Engine 44-1 position in the "C" Division (rear of the building) and check the building with air monitors.  Firefighters from Tower 44 had the "A" Division (upper level - front side of the shopping center) and evacuated the upper level stores and checked the shopping center for Carbon Monoxide.  Tower 14 (Swarthmore) was dispatched to assist with ventilation.  Crews from Engine 44-1 and Tower 14 ventilated the lower level area and after about 30 minutes businesses resumed normal operations.
