Delco Cup Returns Home to Springfield

2008 Delco Cup Champs!
On Saturday, October 4th, Springfield Firefighters set out to accomplish one goal, bringing back the Delco Cup to Springfield Fire Company.  Springfield participated in the annual Delaware County Firefighter's Competition held at Rose Tree Park.  The Competition is held each year to test the participating fire companies in different firefighting skill areas.  The event also raises money to benefit the soon to be completed Fallen Firefighter and EMS Memorial at Rose Tree Park.

Springfield Fire Company competed with seven other teams from 6 different fire companies from around Delaware County.  The first event was the Handline Scramble.  Springfield's Team set the best time early in the event with a time of 2 minutes and 2 seconds.  The time secured a first place award for Team Springfield.

Shortly after the Handline Scramble, the 5 man team for the Ironman Competition tackled the intense skill course designed to test firefighters in many skills areas.  Dragging and operating a pressurized 1 3/4" hoseline, carrying two 50' hose rolls, carrying a 24' extension ladder, sledge hammer station simulating chopping with an axe, and rescue drag of an unconscious victim.  All these skills are performed wearing full firefighting gear including Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).  Springfield's team was able to placed fourth overall in the Team Competition with one member from the team placing 3rd overall in the best individual times.

The next event was the Deckgun Scramble.  The Springfield Team set a time of one minute and 53 seconds, good enough to secure second place, less than 3 seconds behind the first place finish.

The finish up the day's events, Springfield Firefighters attacked the Bucket Brigade challenge.  Finishing with a time of one minute and 48 seconds, the Team came in second place.

Once all the events were completed, awards were handed out for the individual events.  The last award of the day to be given out was the Delco Cup, given to the best all around Team in all events.  Springfield Fire Company is proud to say that it's members have returned the Delco Cup to Springfield Township for another year.  This is the fourth time that Springfield has captured the top honors since the Delco Cup award was started in 2003.

Springfield Fire Company would like congratulate all the Companies that participated in the 2008 Delaware County Firefighter's Competition.  Showing the true meaning of brotherhood and spirit of competition is one goal of the firefighters competition each year.  The ultimate goal of raising money to honor our Fallen Firefighters and EMS personnel with a permanent memorial at Rose Tree Park will become a reality on November 1st, 2008.
