Rain Storm Brings 2nd Busiest 24 hour Span in the Company History

The Springfield Fire Company had it's 2nd busiest 24 hour call volume day, handling 50 calls on Friday, October 1st.  The busiest day was back in 1999 during Hurricane Floyd when the fire company answered 75 calls.

Emergency Responders up and down the entire East Coast were preparing for the worse as rains storms and the remains of Tropical Storm Nicole combined to bring heavy rains and wind.  The Delaware Valley area was most effected late Thursday night and into Friday day.  Springfield Firefighters were first alerted around 3am to the first of 50 emergency calls that would be answered before noon time.  The fire company responded to various incidents such as: water rescues, evacuations, assisting ems, building fires, traffic accidents, gas and electric emergencies.

Springfield Firefighters rescued two occupants of a vehicle that tried unsuccessfully to navigate thru flooded West Rolling Road.  Firefighters checked approximately 30 dwellings on Doe Run Lane, Timbertrail Lane and West Rolling Road due to flood waters from Darby Creek.  Firefighters were advising residents in the area of a voluntary evacuation due to the flood waters and the unknown level to which they could rise before the storms were over.

Springfield Township's Municipal Building was set-up as a temporary evacuation shelter for residents.  Springfield Ambulance Corps personnel assisted the Fire Company with transporting residents to the Township Building.

With the rain storms ending sooner than originally forecasted by Weather Stations, the flooding situation in Springfield Township was quickly clearing up by 11am.

Assisting Company 44 during the emergencies were: Ambulance 44-7 & 44-7A, Utility 08 and Marine 08 (Prospect Park), Medic 106, Company 03 (Clifton Heights), RIT 20 (Garrettford-Drexel Hill).
