Tractor Trailer Fire on I-476

Firefighters from TAC 44 stretch a 200' 1 3/4" hoseline to start initial fire attack with firefighters from Co. 53
Springfield Fire Company was dispatched early Thursday morning at 02:02 hours along with Company 53 (Broomall) to I-476 Southbound around Mile Marker 7.5 for a Vehicle Fire reported to be a tractor trailer on fire.  Upon of Chief 53-9A, the trailer portion of a tractor trailer was involved in fire.

Chief 53-9A established I-476 Command and had Engine 53-2 stretch an 1 3/4" hoseline to start fire attack.  Chief 53-9A had units from Springfield respond Northbound in the Southbound lane after traffic was shut down to assist with fire attack.

Chief 44-9B and TAC 44 arrived on location and placed an additional 1 3/4" hoseline into service to assist the crew from Company 53.  With the rear portion of the trailer well involved, firefighters worked quickly to keep the fire from spreading to the front of the trailer.

Firefighters from Engine 44-4, Engine 44-2 and Engine 44-1 assisted on the scene.  Engine 44-4 and Engine 44-2 provided additional water to TAC 44 during the incident.  Springfield firefighters also cut an access hole in the side of the trailer to assist with fire extinguishment.

Firefighters remained on the scene for over two hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  TAC 44, Engine 44-4, Engine 44-2, Engine 44-1, Engine 53-2, Engine 53-3, Rescue 53, Traffic 53, and Pennsylvania State Police.

Company 03 (Clifton Heights) provided stand by coverage at Station 44 during the incident.

TAC 44 provided initial fire attack with Co.53 while Engine 44-4 provided additional water to TAC 44.
