Springfield Faces Clifton Heights on the Diamond

With the playoffs quickly approaching,  Springfield Fire Company was looking to secure the home field advantage through out the playoffs when they matched up against Clifton Heights Fire Company (Company 03) on Tuesday Night, August 25th.  Originally scheduled a day game, the game time was changed to accommodate ESPN's Tuesday Night Game.

Having an undefeated record at home this season (1-0), Springfield's Sluggers were out to show Clifton Heights Outlaw's what it means to be a member of the Sixth District.  Springfield started early on the offense building a nice comfortable lead in the early innings.  Clifton's offense was left back on the Pike in Clifton, as their batters were quickly being turned away by the "Cliff Lee"  like performance by the Springfield starting pitching staff.

In the late innings, Clifton's sluggers were having no luck with trying to go deep against the stellar defense displayed by the outfield.  Resorting to the small ball, Clifton quietly put runs on the scoreboard as the sun was setting fast.

In an epic battle for the ages, Springfield defended the home turf (and burned out infield grass), to send the Clifton faithful home with hopes of what might have been.  The Springfield Sluggers outlasted the Clifton Outlaws 8-6 in another great summer classic.

After the game, refreshments were served at Station 44 and the trash talking was already starting for next season.  The two teams are currently in talks with FOX Sports to be the FOX Saturday Baseball Game of the week during the month of August next year.  Stay tuned for further information.
