Springfield Firefighters were sent to the 600 Block of Beatty Road early Monday morning, August 16th for a Dwelling Fire.  County 911 was advising responding units that the caller was stating that the home was well involved with fire.  Upon arrival of Springfield PD and Chief 44-9B (Huczko), there was a two story home with fire showing throughout the home.

Chief 44-9B established Springfield Command and had Firefighters from Engine 44-1 and Tower 44 go into service with defensive operations to gain control of the fast moving fire.  Firefighters placed multiple 2 1/2" and 1 3/4" hoselines and the Blitz Fire master stream device in service to cover all four sides of the home.  Company 23 (Media) was standing by as the RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) on the fireground.

Command requested additional units to assist on the fireground.  The 2nd Alarm assignment brought units from Company 73 (Rose Tree), Company 53 (Broomall), Company 14 (Swarthmore), Company 20 (Garrettford-Drexel Hill) and Airbank 58 (Bon Air).  2nd Alarm companies were able to gain access to the dwelling thru Kelli Lane at the rear of the property and assisted Springfield Firefighters with bringing the fire under control.  Firefighters were advised by a neighbor that the residents of the home were away on vacation at the time of the fire and that no one was inside the dwelling.

EMS personnel from Ambulance 44-7 & 44-7A, Medic 106, Rehab 34 (Llanerch) and Canteen 47 (Feltonville) provided Rehab for all personnel operating on the fireground.

Firefighters had the fire under control in less than one hour with firefighters remaining on the scene until 0600 hours performing overhaul operations.  The fire is under investigation by Springfield Township Fire Marshal's Office and County CID.

Engine 58 (Bon Air), Rescue 56 (Manoa) and Tower 34 (Llanerch) provided stand by coverage at Station 44 during the incident and assisted with restoring Company 44 apparatus and equipment upon return to the station.
