Electric Panel Burns in Basement

With heavy summer storms having just rolled thru the Delaware County area, Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Sunday, August 9th, at 09:48 hours to the 800 Block of Evans Road for a Dwelling Fire. Upon arrival, Chief 44-9 found a heavy smoke conditions in the basement of a two story single family dwelling.
An electrical contractor doing work inside the residence stated that smoke and fire was coming from a burning electric panel box in the basement. Fire was extending into the ceiling area and first floor joists of the home. The quick actions of the contractor, prior to the fire department arriving, kept the fire from spreading and causing further damage.
Firefighters from Engine 44-1 & Tower 44 checked for any possible fire extension using thermal imaging cameras. Firefighters also set up ventilation fans to remove smoke from inside the residence
Firefighters were in service until 10:47 hours.
Units operating on the scene were: Engine 44-1, Tower 44, Engine 44-4 & Rescue 44. Engine 03-1 (Clifton Heights -RIT), Ambulance 44-7, Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital), Springfield Township Fire Marshal Car 1, Springfield Police and Fire Police.
