Late Night Accident on West Springfield Road

| Springfield Fire Company was dispatched early Sunday morning at 02:26 hours for an Motor Vehicle Accident on West Springfield Road at South Highland Road. Upon arrival of Springfield Police and Chief 44-9B, there was a one vehicle accident with three severely injured passengers and one subject trapped in the rear passenger area. The accident scene covered an approximately two block long area where the vehicle had struck at least two PECO utility poles and a large tree before coming to rest on the front lawn of the home at 319 West Springfield Road.
With three passengers injured and one still trapped, Chief 44-9B had personnel from TAC 44 and Rescue 44 stabilize the vehicle and start rescue operations. Ambulance 44-7 and Medic 106 (Springfield) having been assigned on the initial dispatch, Chief 44-9B had two addtional Medic units, Medic 103 (DCMH) and Medic 102 (Taylor), dispatched along with two additional ambulances, Ambulance 44-7A and Ambulance 03-7 (Clifton Heights), to assist on the scene.
Springfield Firefighters removed the rear drivers side door with the Holmatro rescue tools to gain access to the passenger in the rear of the vehicle. A rapid extrication was performed to remove the subject due to multiple trauma injuries.
EMS personnel transported one subject to Crozer Chester Medical Center and one subject to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). A helicopter landing zone was set-up by firefighters from Engine 44-1 at Volunteer Memorial Field at Saxer Avenue and Powell Road for PennStar's medical helicopter (PennStar 2). The third subject, who had to be extricated, was flown by PennStar to HUP.
Firefighters remained on the scene providing scene lighting for Springfield Police until 05:00 hours. The accident is under investigation by Springfield Police.
Units operating on the scene were: TAC 44, Rescue 44, Engine 44-1, Ambulance 44-7 & 44-7A, Ambulance 03-7, Medic 106, Medic 102, Medic 103, Springfield Police and Fire Police and PennStar 2.
