Firefighters Train In Engine Company Evolutions

Firefighters practice with a portable Monitor.
On Tuesday, July 21st, at 19:00 hours, Springfield Firefighters headed to the new housing development off Summit Road to practice Engine Company Operations.  Engine Company operations are the tasked performed at any fire scene by the firefighters riding on the Engine or Pumper apparatus.  Some of these tasks include:  fire attack, water supply, drafting operations and master stream operation.  Always termed as a Water Drill by the members, the training exercise allows members, in the driver training program, to get time operating the fire pumps on the different apparatus within the company.  Ranging in pumping capacity from 1500 GPM (gallons per minute) to 2000 GPM, the members gain valuable training that can be put to the test during working fire incidents.

Members not in the driver training program, man different size hose lines and learn the benefits and limitations of different equipment used by the fire company.  Members receive training on different tactics that may be used on various fire incidents.  These tactics can vary based on the size and location of the building, the size and location of the fire within the building, any buildings being exposed to the fire and the manpower that is available to man the equipment.

Firefighters were in service until 20:30 hours.
