Vehicle Fire Spreads to Garage

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Sunday, July 12th, at 18:00 hours to the Unit Block of South Hillcrest Road for a Vehicle Fire.  Initial responding units from Company 44 were advised by  County 911 dispatchers that the call was being upgraded to a Building Fire.  Chief 44-9B arrived on location and had a two story garage and a vehicle well involved in fire to the rear of a residence in the block.

Engine 44-1 arrived on location and placed an 1 3/4" hose line into service and started attacking the fast moving fire.  Firefighters knocked down the fire from the exterior and then started to advance the line to the second floor area of the garage to check for fire extension.  Firefighters from Tower 44 assisted with a second 1 3/4" hose line and laddering the structure.  Engine 44-4 laid a 5" supply line from a hydrant at Orchard Road and South Hillcrest Road into the fire scene and provided addtional manpower on the scene.

Firefighters from Rescue 44 and Utility 44 assisted with overhaul on the scene.  Company 43 (Holmes) stood by as the Rapid Intervention Team on the fire ground.  Ambulance 44-7 and Medic 106 handled rehab operations during the incident.

The fire is under investigation by Springfield Township Fire Marshal's Office.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 20:15 hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  Engine 44-1, Tower 44, Engine 44-4, Rescue 44, Utility 44, Ambulance 44-7, Medic 106, Rescue 43, Springfield Police, Fire Police and Springfield Township Fire Marshal's Office.  Quint 3 (Clifton Heights) provided stand by coverage at Station 44 during the incident.
