More Valuable Training at Value City

Springfield Fire Company, once again, returned to the old Value City Department Store site (721 West Sproul Road) for more valuable hands-on training on Thursday, July 2nd.  With the building getting closer to demolition, firefighters were allowed to do some demolition work of their own.

Springfield Firefighters, along with personnel from Clifton Heights, Rose Tree, Swarthmore, Broomall, Holmes, Garden City, Prospect Park, Media, Newtown Square and Llanerch Fire Companies, took advantage of the opportunity by practicing numerous Truck Company tactics on the structure.  Firefighters performed ventilation operations on the roof using hand tools and power saws, forcible entry, metal roll-up door cutting and aerial operations.  There were over 100 firefighters from the various companies training at the site on possibly the last night of available training with the building.

Springfield Ambulance Corps provided stand by medical coverage at the site during the training session.  One firefighter did require medical attention for a minor injury.

Springfield Fire Company would once again like to thank the employees of Kimco Realty who made this training opportunity possible.  We would also like to thank the many fire departments surrounding the Springfield Township area that came and drilled with the members of Springfield Fire Company.
