FAQ

On Saturday, June 11th, at 1133 hours, Springfield Fire Company was dispatched, along with Company 14 (Swarthmore), Company 13 (Morton-Rutledge) and RIT 43 (Holmes) to the 100 Block of South Swarthmore Avenue for a Building Fire.  County 911 was receiving numerous 911 calls from the neighborhood reporting smoke showing from a residential dwelling on South Swarthmore Avenue at Cresson Lane.  Upon arrival of initial units, smoke was showing from a 1 1/2 story single family home.

Tower 14 and Engine 44-1 arrived on location and placed hose lines into service on Division 1 and Division 2 of the structure.  Firefighters encountered fire conditions in the laundry room of the home with fire extending into the walls and ceiling area.  Chief 44-9 established Springfield Command and Chief 14-9A had Operations.

Firefighters from Tower 44 laddered and ventilated the structure and assisted interior crews with opening up walls and ceilings.  Engine 13-1 laid a 5" supply line and Engine 14-2 provided a water supply to Engine 44-1.

Additional manpower was brought into the scene to relieve the first in companies.  Company 52 (Brookhaven), Company 08 (Prospect Park) and Company 65 (Garden City) assisted with overhaul on the scene.

Firefighters performed extensive overhaul operations, checking for any fire extension throughout the structure.

EMS personnel from Ambulance 44-7 &7A, Medic 106 and Ambulance 14-7 along with Canteen 47 (Feltonville) provided rehab and refreshments for Firefighters.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 1400 hours.  The fire is under investigation by Springfield Township Fire Marshal's Office.
