3 Alarm Fire in Collingdale

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Thursday, June 10th at 0220 hours, for the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) assignment on a Commercial Building Fire at 1116 MacDade Boulevard in Collingdale.  Company 06 (Collingdale #1) and Company 42 (Collingdale #2) were dispatched to the location for reported smoke coming from the building.  Upon arrival of Collingdale PD and Quint 6, smoke was showing from a garage door of a mutliple unit commercial property.

Rescue 44 arrived on location and set-up equipment for RIT operations.  Firefighters from Company 06 and Company 42 encountered heavy fire conditions inside the building and also had arcing wires outside the building that were hampering initial operations.

Collingdale Command requested additional companies, dispatching second alarm and eventually third alarm assignments.  Firefighters from Rescue 44 stood by as RIT in the early stages of the fire and then were put to work by Collingdale Command after additional RIT teams from Company 43 (Holmes) and Company 45 (Parkside) were called to assist.

Firefighting operations were switched to a defensive mode during the fire due to deteriorating building conditions.  Once the fire was brought under control, Collingdale Command had firefighters go back to a limited offensive mode to extinguish the remaining fire within the structure.

Firefighters had the fire under control around 0500 hours and firefighters worked well into the morning overhauling and checking for fire extension.

Springfield Firefighters were released from scene around 0700 hours.
