Kitchen Fire on Memorial Day Quickly Extinguished

| Springfield Firefighters had some Memorial Day events delayed due to a House Fire in the 200 Block of Harwicke Road. Firefighters were dispatched on Monday afternoon, May 30th, at 14:01 hours for the reported Kitchen Fire. Upon arrival of Chief 44-9A, smoke was showing from the first floor of a two story single family dwelling. The homeowner was reporting that all family members were out of the house and that there was a fire in the kitchen.
Chief 44-9A established Springfield Command. Engine 44-1 laid a 5" supply line into the scene and quickly placed an 1 3/4" hose line into service. Firefighters from Engine 44-1 contained the fire to the stove area of the kitchen. Firefighters from Tower 44 and Engine 44-4 assisted with ventilation as Firefighters from Rescue 20 (Garrettford-Drexel Hill) stood by as the RIT (Rapid Intervention Team).
The fire was placed under control and Springfield Command held units from Company 44. Fire damage was limited to the kitchen area with minor smoke damage inside the dwelling.
Units operating on the scene were: Engine 44-1, Tower 44, Engine 44-4, Rescue 20, Ambulance 44-7, Medic 106, Springfield Police, Fire Police and Springfield Township's Fire Marshal Car 1.
