VFW Loyalty Day Ceremony

On Saturday, April 30th, VFW Post #5705 held their Annual Loyalty Day Ceremony at the Springfield Township Building.  During the ceremony, the VFW honors one member from each of the three Emergency Services within Springfield Township: Springfield Fire Company, Springfield Ambulance Corps and the Springfield Police Department.

Engineer Robert Smythe Sr. was the person choosen by the Chief Officers of Springfield Fire Company to be honored as the Firefighter of the Year.  Engineer Smythe Sr. was introduced at the ceremony by his son Robert Smythe Jr, a Firefighter with Springfield Fire Company.  In addition to his 8 years of service to Springfield Fire Company, Engineer Smythe Sr. is also the Police Chief with the Darby Borough Police Department.

Smythe Sr. was choosen for his dedication to the Fire Company and also his assistance with the Delaware County Fallen Firefighter and EMS Memorial that was dedicated at Rose Tree Park in 2008.

Officer Jeffrey Shull of the Springfield Police Department and EMT Kelly Sweeney of the Springfield Ambulance Corps were honored along side Engineer Robert Smythe Sr. during the ceremony.

Springfield Fire Company would like to thank the members of VFW Post #5705 for the annual Loyalty Day ceremony recognizing the dedication of all Emergency Response personnel within Springfield Township and for your dedicated service to our Country.
