Electrical Fire Smokes Up Business

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched at 02:23 hours on Tuesday, April 19th to 134 Baltimore Pike for a Fire Alarm.  Upon arrival of Engine 44-1, nothing was showing the from the exterior of the business.  Engine 44-1 stood by on location until a representative from the business arrived with a key.  Upon making entry into the building, there was a haze of smoke inside the business and an odor of electrical equipment burning.  44-9C (Thomas) had the call upgraded to a Building Fire Response, dispatching Company 44, RIT 20 (Garrettford) and RIT 43 (Holmes).

Firefighters from Engine 44-1 started looking for the source of the smoke while Firefighter from Tower 44 checked the roof of the building.  Chief 44-9B (Huczko) arrived on location and established Springfield Command.  Company 03 (Clifton Heights) was dispatched to assist on the scene.  PECO Energy was notifed to respond to the emergency.

Firefighters from Company 44 and RIT 20 handled operations inside 134 Baltimore Pike, while Firefighters from Company 03 and RIT 43 checked the attached exposure building (122 Baltimore Pike).

Firefighters stood by while PECO Energy crews checked for the source, which ended up being an underground electrical problem outside the businesses.  Once PECO Energy crews secured the power, firefighters ventilated the structures.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 04:23 hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  Engine 44-1, Tower 44, Engine 44-4, Rescue 20 (RIT), Rescue 43 (RIT), Quint 03, Engine 03-2, Ambulance 44-7, Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital), Ambulance 03-7, Springfield Police, Fire Police and Springfield Township Fire Marshal's Office.
