Morning Accident Involving Tractor Trailer Snarls Pike Traffic

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Thursday morning, April 17th, at 07:17 hours to Baltimore Pike and Wallingford Road, in the area of Springfield Mall, for a Motor Vehicle Accident with Entrapment. Upon arrival of Springfield Police and Medic 106, emergency responders encountered a two vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle. The driver of the passenger vehicle was confined inside the vehicle and had sustained major trauma injuries.
Firefighters from TAC 44 and Rescue 44 quickly stabilized the vehicle and set-up for possible extrication operations. Medic 106-9 called for a rapid extrication of the driver due to a deteriorating medical condition because of major injuries sustained during the accident. Firefighters assisted Ambulance 44-7 and Medic 106-9 with the extrication. One firefighter from Rescue 44 assisted EMS crews with patient care en route to the hospital.
Firefighters remained on the scene until 08:17 hours. Utility 44 assisted on the scene with traffic control.
Units operating on the scene were TAC 44, Rescue 44, Utility 44, Ambulance 44-7, Ambulance 23-7 Medic 106, Medic 106-9, Springfield Police and Fire Police.
