Springfield Firefighters were alerted on Wednesday, April 13th, at 1354 hours, for the House Fire with possible Entrapment in the 100 Block of Broadview Road.  Assisting Company 44 on the initial Box Alarm assignment were Ladder 20 (Garrettford-Drexel Hill), Engine 56 (Manoa), Engine 58 (Bon Air), and RIT 53 (Broomall).  Upon arrival of Captain 44-12, smoke was showing from a 2 1/2 story single family dwelling and the report of a person trapped on the second floor was confirmed.

Chief 44-9 established Springfield Command and Engine 44-1 arrived on location and placed an 1 3/4" hose line into service and Firefighters proceeded to the second floor of the home to search for the trapped occupant.  Firefighters from Ladder 20 started exterior ventilation and addtional manpower from Company 56, 58 and 44 assisted with additional hose lines and ventilation.  Engine 58 provided a 5" supply line to Engine 44-1.  Firefighters from Rescue 53 stood by as RIT on the fire ground.

The fire was contained to one bedroom on the second floor of the residence where Firefighters located the trapped occupant of residence.  The burn injuries sustained by the resident were fatal.

Firefighters assisted Springfield Township Fire Marshal's Office with the fire investigation and then performed extensive overhaul.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 1754 hours.

Tower 34 (Llanerch), Engine 65 (Garden City) and Rescue 63 (Green Ridge) provided stand by coverage at Station 44 during the incident.

Springfield Fire Company would like to thank the residents on Broadview Road that provided refreshments to the Firefighters during the incident.
