Sprinkler System Controls Dryer Fire in Healthplex
|
Springfield Fire Company was dispatched along with Swarthmore (Company 14) and Media (Company 23) Fire Companies on Wednesday, April 1st at 09:15 hours to the Springfield Hospital for a Fire Alarm Activation. Upon arrival of Engine 44-1, personnel from Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital) were advising that there was a dryer fire in the lower level of the Healthplex and that the fire was controlled by the sprinkler system.
Chief 44-9 had Command and held the assignment to Engine 44-1 and Tower 14. A sprinkler system, that had been recently added inside the dryer units at the Healthplex, controlled the fire and minimized damage that possibly would have occurred from a more serious fire.
Firefighters checked the area around the dryer with thermal imaging cameras for any fire extension. After checking the area and securing the utilities to the dryer unit involved, the incident was turned over to Springfield Healthplex Maintenance and Management.
Firefighters remained on the scene until 09:45 hours.
