Tree Falls into Busy Intersection |
On Saturday evening, March 8th, as severe storms were quickly rolling thru Delaware County with fierce winds and hail, Springfield Fire Company was dispatched at 17:48 hours to Baltimore Pike and Saxer Avenue for an Industrial Rescue. The strong winds had toppled a large tree in front of the Delaware Valley Appliance store into the busy intersection. The County 911 center was receiving reports that the tree had fallen onto one vehicle and the occupants of the vehicle were still inside.
Springfield Firefighters arrived on location with Springfield Police and EMS personnel from Springfield Ambulance Corps and Medic 106 (Springfield Hospital). After quickly assessing the scene, rescue personnel had only one vehicle that was damaged by the falling tree with one occupant of the vehicle suffering minor injuries. With the size of the tree and the location in which it fell, rescue personnel were amazed that only one vehicle was struck by the tree. Firefighters from Rescue 44 assisted EMS personnel and secured all hazards on the scene. Firefighters remained on the scene until 18:16 hours. |
