Generator Fire at Crum Creek Pumping Station

Springfield Fire Company was alerted to a Generator Fire at the Aqua Pennsylvania Crum Creek Pumping Station on Beatty Road, on Friday, February 12th at 10:01 hours.  Engine 44-1 and Chief 44-9 arrived on location and had fire inside a large generator on the exterior of the Pumping Station.  The generator provides back-up power to the Water Works facility in the event of a power failure.

Firefighters from Engine 44-1 stretched an 1 3/4" hose line.  Firefighters from Engine 44-1 anf Tower 44 gained access to the generator and had fire around the diesel motor of the generator.  Firefighters used a Purple K dry chemical extinguisher to contain the fire.

The diesel generator has a 4000 gallon supply tank located directly underneath the generator which was not affected by the fire.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 10:46 hours.

Units operating on the scene were:  Engine 44-1, Tower 44, Squad 44, Ambulance 44-7, Medic 106, Springfield Township Fire Marshal, and Springfield Police.
