First Place Honors in Chili Contest
|
Springfield Fire Company members traveled to SmokeEaters Pub in Northeast Philadelphia on Saturday, January 24th, for their second annual Chili Cookoff. The event was held to support the Hero Scholarship Fund of Philadelphia.
Captain Bob Tracey broke out an old family recipe handed down from generation to generation of Tracey's, while Lieutenant Joe Fraatz labored for a week before the event to make the ultimate in Chili Cookoff presentations.
About a dozen members from Springfield showed their support for the Company and headed to Smoke Eaters to enjoy some fine Chili from Captain Tracey and from participants from the Philadelphia Fire Department and Philadelphia Police Department. One other volunteer fire company from Bucks County planned to participate but they were busy fighting a fire back in Bucks County.
After the judges sampled all the fine recipes, an overall winner was declared. The top prize went to Springfield Fire Company for Captain Bob Tracey's "Last In, First Out" chili. Springfield Fire Company would like to thank Smoke Eater's Pub and for hosting a great event and to all the participants for supporting a great cause. Springfield Fire Company looks forward to defending the title again next year.
