Another Dump Truck Incident on I-476
|
Springfield Fire Company was dispatched along with Company 53 (Broomall), on Friday, January 22nd, at 10:37 hours, to I-476 Northbound at Mile Marker 6.0 for a Motor Vehicle Accident. County 911 was advising responding units that the accident was involving a tractor trailer that went thru the center median. Upon arrival of Chief 44-9, there was a dump truck body lying in the Northbound lanes and the chassis of the truck was on the Southbound side of the highway. The dump truck body appeared to have struck the overpass for Route 320 while the driver was traveling Northbound with the dump body in the raised position.
Firefighters from Squad 44 and Rescue 44 controlled traffic on the Northbound side while spreading absorbent materials on a hydraulic oil spill on the roadway. Firefighters from Company 53 handled a diesel fuel spill from the chassis of the truck while EMS personnel from Ambulance and Medic 53 treated the injured driver.
Firefighters from Company 44 stood by on the scene until 11:07 hours. Firefighters from Company 53 stayed on the scene until the vehicle was cleared from the highway.
Units operating on the scene were: Squad 44, Rescue 44, Rescue 53, Engine 53-2, Traffic 53 and Pennsylvania State Police.
