Kitchen Fire on Harwicke Road

Springfield Firefighters were alerted to a House Fire on Tuesday evening, January 12th at 18:24 hours in the 300 Block of Harwicke Road. Upon arrival of Captain 44-9C and Chief 44-9B, smoke was showing from the dwelling and the homeowner was reporting a fire inside the kitchen.
Engine 44-1 arrived on location and stretched an 1 3/4" hose line into the dwelling. Firefighters from Tower 44 laddered the structure, provided ventilation from inside the home and checked for fire extension on the upper levels of the home. Firefighters from Engine 44-4 and Rescue 44 provided additional manpower on the scene. Rescue 20 (Garrettford-Drexel Hill) stood by as the RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) on the fireground.
Firefighters quickly controlled the fire in the kitchen area and contained the fire damage to the kitchen area, with smoke damage sustained throughout the residence. The quick action by the resident to evacuate the home and immediately call 911 from a neighboring residence saved the home from further damage.
Firefighters remained on the scene until 19:24 hours.
Units operating on the scene were: Engine 44-1, Tower 44, Engine 44-4, Rescue 44, Ambulance 44-7, Rescue 20 (RIT), Medic 106, Springfield Police and Fire Police.
