3 Alarm House Fire in Upper Providence

The Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Monday, January 9th at 1030 hours to assist Company 73 (Rose Tree) in the 100 Block of Carlton Place in Upper Providence Township for a Dwelling Fire.  Also dispatched on the initial assignment were Company 23 (Media), RIT 53 (Broomall) and Medic 23 (Riddle Hospital).

Upon arrival of Upper Providence Police and Chief 73-9 and had a single family split level home with an attached garage that was well involved with fire.

Tower 44 arrived on location and positioned in front of the fire dwelling and set up for roof operations.  Quint 73 was on location and in service with a 2 1/2" hose line, while Squrt 23 provided a water supply into the scene.   RIT 53 staged on the front yard of the residence.  A second RIT team was requested by 73 Command which brought Company 14 (Swarthmore). Once on the fireground, the second RIT was staged at the rear of the home.

Firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions on the interior. The structure appeared to be a three story split level from the front, but the building actually had 5 floor levels including two attics. Crews worked well to coordinate four interior handlines and open up void spaces to extinguish all of the fire.

73 Command then requested a full second alarm which brought additional units from Company 53, Engine 51 (South Media), Engine 41 (Newtown Square), Truck 69 (Lima) and Rescue 52 (Brookhaven).  Medic 104-7 (Riddle Hospital) was also requested to assist with fireground rehab.

Additional manpower was reuqested by Command which dispatched the next due engine from the third alarm, Engine 50 (Middletown).

Company 44 operated for over two hours on the scene before being released by 73 Command.  Quint 03 (Clifton Heights), Engine 58 (Bon Air) and Rescue 56 (Manoa) provided stand by coverage at Station 44 during the incident.
